One of Suzanne's colleagues was married at The Curradine Barns and recommended it to her. They knew they wanted to get married in the Midlands so went to visit. "John Ballard showed us round the barns, courtyard and grounds. We ate home made cake in his kitchen and were hooked. This was the first venue we visited and John recommended that we see some more before deciding but we had decided. The setting is stunning, surrounded by fields and the barns were beautiful."
Suzanne wore a beautiful made to measure sleeveless lace dress by Beverley Lister with a satin sash tied as an empire line with a lace veil from Evangeline Rose. Here shoes were by Pink and she wore pearl-style hairgrips, diamanté & pearl-style earrings from a friend and silver bracelet given to her by her brother the evening before.
The Bridesmaids wore cream dresses from Monsoon with blue, green & silver embroidery and their necklaces were by Poly Philippou.
Jason wore a deep blue bespoke suit by Kilgour on Saville Row, a tie by Eton and
cufflinks by Poly Philippou. The Best Man wore his own suit with a tie by Eton and cufflinks by Poly Philippou. The Ushers also wore their own suits or kilts with ties by Simon Carter and cufflinks by Poly Philippou.
The bouquets were made from blue hydrangeas, white roses and thistles. The Groom, Best Man and Ushers wore buttonholes from hydrangea petals, white roses and thistles.
The reception barn was decorated with white linens and fairy lights. The tables were named after the bride and groom's favourite places with a photo of the place on each table and a description of why it was so special to them. The table plan was a map of the world with the tables marked on it. Suzanne's friend Claire made the table flowers which were blue hydrangeas and white avalanche roses in clear vases. There were also tall vases with white hydrangeas and sea grass in the ceremony barn and blue organza tied was tied round the trees in the courtyard.
For favours, Suzanne and Jason gave each guest a small galvanised bucket filled with crocus bulbs and topped with white shredded tissue. "A few people thought the bulbs were nuts and ate them!" There was a mop of blue hydrangeas on top of a three tier chocolate cake (made by a friend's brother-in-law Rob), decorated with scrolls of dark chocolate round the cake and shavings on top.
Suzanne says the best part of the day was "saying our vows to each other in front of all our family and friends. It was overwhelming. Jason also did a surprise slideshow of photos of our friends and family, including those that could not be there. We also asked some friends and family to perform a few songs as a surprise for our guests and Jason surprised me by performing a favourite song of ours - 'Won't Give In' by the Finn Brothers." When asked if she had any tips for future brides, Suzanne said; "The day can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be and don't be afraid to ask for help."
